ADAS Calibration FAQ for Body Shops

Frequently Asked Questions

Last updated: May 2026

Focal ADAS is a mobile ADAS calibration service for collision repair shops from Seattle to Tacoma. The vehicle stays on the shop's floor, the work is performed to OEM specification on-site in 30 to 90 minutes, and every job ships with the pre-scan, post-scan, procedure reference, and photos a carrier needs to pay the line item without dispute.

General

Do I need an ADAS calibration after a windshield replacement?

Yes. On most vehicles built since roughly 2018, the forward-facing camera mounted to the windshield must be recalibrated whenever the glass is replaced. Honda, Toyota, Subaru, and nearly every other manufacturer require it. Focal ADAS brings the full calibration setup to the shop and completes the work on-site, usually in 30 to 90 minutes.

When does a vehicle need an ADAS calibration?

A calibration is typically required after a windshield replacement, a forward or rear collision, bumper removal or replacement, suspension or alignment work, mirror or sensor replacement, or any time a camera or radar is disturbed. When in doubt, the OEM repair procedure for that VIN is the authority, and Focal ADAS checks it on every job.

How long does a mobile ADAS calibration take?

Most calibrations take 30 to 90 minutes on-site, depending on the vehicle, the number of systems, and whether the procedure is static, dynamic, or both. The vehicle never leaves the shop, so the repair stays on the shop's floor and the shop's cycle time stays intact.

Is a diagnostic scan the same as a calibration?

No. A scan reads trouble codes. A calibration physically aims and verifies a camera or radar to the manufacturer's specification. A system can show no codes and still be out of alignment, which is why clearing a code is not the same as calibrating. Both pre-scan and post-scan are included with every Focal ADAS calibration.

Process and documentation

What documentation comes with each calibration?

Every job includes a pre-repair scan, a post-repair scan confirming no new faults, the manufacturer procedure reference that required the calibration, on-site setup photos, and one itemized invoice. The package is built so the calibration line item is approved and paid by the carrier without back-and-forth.

Do you provide pre-scan and post-scan reports?

Yes, both are standard on every calibration, never an add-on. The pre-scan documents the vehicle's condition on arrival, and the post-scan confirms all systems are calibrated, communicating, and free of new diagnostic trouble codes before the vehicle leaves the shop.

Why does the documentation matter for getting paid?

Insurers approve calibration charges when the paperwork shows the work was required and performed to OEM standards. Industry guidance is consistent on this: disputes usually come down to documentation, not price. When the invoice mirrors the OEM procedure and includes scans and photos, adjusters approve the charge with confidence.

Pricing and billing

How much does an ADAS calibration cost?

Single-system calibrations start at $349 and include the full documentation package. Diagnostic scans start at $149. Multi-system jobs are quoted by VIN. For reference, industry data from Revv puts the average calibration charge near $400 per vehicle, so Focal ADAS pricing sits in line with the national market while keeping documentation shop-ready.

How do shops pay, and do you offer terms?

Shop accounts are billed by invoice with Net 30 or Net 45 terms available for repeat shops. Payment can be made offline by check or bank transfer, and an online bank-payment option is available. There are no card surcharges. New shop accounts receive $500 off the first calibration and a price-match guarantee.

Insurance and liability

Are you insured?

Yes. Focal ADAS carries general liability and professional liability coverage. A certificate of insurance naming the shop as additionally insured is available on request, usually the same day. Subletting calibration to Focal ADAS moves that calibration liability off the shop and onto a documented, insured specialist.

Will the calibration charge survive an insurance review?

Yes, that is the entire point of the documentation package. Each calibration ships with the OEM procedure reference, pre-scan, post-scan, and setup photos formatted to match what CCC, Mitchell, and Audatex reviewers expect to see, so the line item holds up when a carrier looks closely.

Service area and scheduling

How fast can you get to my shop?

Same-day service across Seattle and the South Sound is typical, with arrival often within about 90 minutes of confirmation between SeaTac and Lakewood. Booking a day ahead guarantees a time window. Focal ADAS works around the shop's blueprint and schedule, not the other way around.

Where does Focal ADAS travel?

Focal ADAS is mobile across the greater Seattle and Puget Sound area, with a core service corridor running from Seattle south through Tukwila, Kent, Renton, Federal Way, Auburn, Puyallup, Lakewood, and Tacoma, and north to Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Covington, and SeaTac.

Equipment and coverage

What vehicles and systems can you calibrate?

Focal ADAS calibrates forward-facing cameras, front and rear radar, 360 and surround-view cameras, blind-spot sensors, and steering angle sensors, and performs the pre-scan and post-scan on each job. Coverage spans the large majority of makes and models currently on the road, with the OEM procedure followed for each specific VIN.
