Night vision camera calibration for Seattle and Tacoma Body Shops

Night vision calibration realigns the thermal/IR camera that drives pedestrian and animal detection at night. The OEM requires it after grille, hood, windshield or radiator-support work on equipped vehicles. Focal ADAS performs it on-site in 30 to 90 minutes and delivers a pre-scan, post-scan, OEM procedure reference and IR target verification record with the invoice.

In short

Night vision calibration realigns the thermal/IR camera that drives pedestrian and animal detection at night. The OEM requires it after grille, hood, windshield or radiator-support work on equipped vehicles. Focal ADAS performs it on-site in 30 to 90 minutes and delivers a pre-scan, post-scan, OEM procedure reference and IR target verification record with the invoice.

When this calibration is required

Triggers below come from the manufacturer's published procedure for the build. Any one of them is enough to put the line on the file.

  • Grille, hood or radiator-support repair on a night-vision-equipped vehicle
  • Windshield replacement (some builds mount the IR camera to the glass)
  • IR camera replaced or unplugged
  • Stored DTC on the night vision or thermal camera module
  • Customer complaint of missing pedestrian highlighting at night

How Focal ADAS performs it

  1. 1
    Pre-scan and VIN decode

We pull every stored DTC and decode the VIN to load the exact OEM calibration procedure for that build.

  2. 2
    Target setup or drive prep

Targets are placed at OEM-specified distances and angles in your bay, or the dynamic drive route is staged.

  3. 3
    Calibration procedure

Static, dynamic, or both — performed in the order the manufacturer requires, with the scan tool driving the sequence.

  4. 4
    Post-scan and verification

A clean post-scan confirms the calibration completed and no new faults were set during the procedure.

  5. 5
    Documentation handed off

Pre-scan, post-scan, completion record, OEM procedure reference, and setup photos delivered with the invoice.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as a forward camera calibration?+

No. The forward camera is visible-light through the windshield. The night vision camera is thermal IR, usually mounted in the upper grille, and uses its own target and procedure.

Do many vehicles even have this?+

Mostly luxury and high-trim full-size builds — recent BMW 7-series, S-Class, Cadillac Escalade, Rolls-Royce, Audi A8. Easy to miss on an estimate, expensive to leave un-calibrated.

How do you verify a thermal calibration?+

We use a heated target at OEM-specified distance and confirm the system highlights it at the correct bearing and range, then capture the completion record from the scan tool.
